When Programs Stop Responding on MacOS

It can be aggravating when programs begin lagging or stop responding in general. Common problems include apps that stop working and won’t close even after you tap the close or X button. At this point, the only thing users can do is force the app to close. The best feature to use on MacOS for this problem is Activity Monitor.

Activity Monitor is like the Task Manager from Microsoft. It lets users end programs by force.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to your Mac’s Spotlight and look for Activity Monitor.
  2. Once you open it, a list of processes will appear.
  3. Choose the app that won’t work from the list and click “Force a process to quit.”
  4. The app will shut down immediately.

Printer Repair – Troubleshooting

Once you learn about the most prevalent difficulties and the solutions that work for them, you can rapidly find workarounds for your printer’s specific model. Even the most aggravating printer issues can be solved with the help of internet tools provided by the manufacturer. Here are a few quick fixes for the problem:

It is possible that your operating system’s drivers will become out of current or unusable after an update. In the event that your printer doesn’t respond to simple commands or keeps crashing, you may be able to fix the problem right away by updating the driver. You may have also installed the wrong printer driver on your computer.

Uninstalling the printer driver on your desktop and reinstalling a more recent version will usually fix the printer’s communication issues with your computer. To find a newer version of your printer’s driver, go to the manufacturer’s support page and enter in your printer’s model number.

Another conceivable explanation is a problem with the Wi-Fi connection. Verify that your Wi-Fi is turned on and working if you are having trouble getting your printer to connect to your computer. In most cases, both devices just need to be restarted.

A new router means that you’ll have to re-configure your printer and computer to interact with the network. Verify if your new router has a new ISP address, if so, you’ll have to reset it.

Pausing Windows OS Updates (10 & 11)

Updates to the Windows operating system have been blamed by several customers for slowing down or even breaking their computers completely. In the OS, most updates are automatically downloaded and installed without warning, which can be a hassle and aggravating. Some updates are optional.

Fortunately, Windows 10 allows you to pause any updates that are downloading or being installed. For those who aren’t quite ready for the process to begin:

  1. Go to Start Menu
  2. Type in Settings
  3. Click on Update & Security
  4. Find Windows Update
  5. Advanced Options -or- Pause updates for 7 days
  6. Select the drop-down menu and pick a date

You can halt Windows 11 updates for up to five weeks by selecting “Pause” from the “Windows Update” selection in the Settings app.

External Hard Drive Troubleshoot

When you use an external hard drive or solid-state drive (SSD) instead of installing one on your computer, you are using “external storage.” Hard drives fail more frequently in laptops because newer computers have fewer moving parts.

Hard drives fail more frequently when used incorrectly, with outdated or unsupported operating systems and drivers, constantly attached and unplugged from other devices (such as laptops), or safely disposed of.

Before attempting any other remedy, run the troubleshooter apps available with Windows OS. These apps include:

  • Windows Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
  •  Windows USB Troubleshooter

Your computer’s USB ports and the storage device they’re linked to can be checked for known issues. They’ll do everything they can to fix anything that goes wrong.

The Start Menu search bar or the Windows Settings Troubleshooter page can lead you to these resources.

Deleting Software to Fix Blue Screen

Installing new software, drivers, games, or just an update to the software existing on the computer can result in a blue screen problem.

Simple solutions should be tried first in these instances, rather than attempting more intricate ones.

In order to get rid of any new or updated software, try these steps:

To access the Control Panel, simply click on the desktop shortcut that you’ve previously created. Pressing Win+Q and typing in the search box can help. After that, go to Programs and Features, locate the software, delete it, and restart your computer to see the changes. Take a look at the apps and features section of Settings, then select the one you wish to delete, and then reboot. Afterward you’ll be done.

Memory Test with Computer Restarting Issues

A memory test may be able to help you solve a computer that keeps restarting due to an issue.

The more you switch between apps, the more likely it is that your memory will be screwed up. Use the built-in Windows memory diagnostic tool to find and fix any issues you may be having.

Just put “Windows Memory Diagnostic” into the Start menu and press Enter. You can simply type mdsched.exe into the Run box and press Enter to open it. Let the machine restart on its own and check for faults, or check for mistakes yourself, are your options from here.

A blue screen at 100% means your computer has to be restarted to make sure everything is working properly.

How Much Ram Do You Need?

It is critical to investigate the specifications of your next computer when shopping. Depending on what you need the device for, you may require something basic or something more extreme.

We described what RAM was and how to increase PC performance back in February. There are several GB of RAM available to assist the computer to run efficiently. It is available in capacities ranging from 4 to 64 GB.

In essence, 4 GB is the basic minimum for running a computer. However, if you have a few programs open, you’ll notice that everything is running slowly. Users who utilize high-end photo and video editing tools should have 64 GB of RAM. This also helps gamers who want to use the greatest resolution and refresh rate.

It is normally suggested to have at least 8 GB of RAM or more. This permits the computer’s overall performance to be better than the minimum.

Minimum System Requirements are anticipated to rise in the future, thus purchasing a computer with more RAM is recommended to extend the life of your machine.

Selling Laptop Tips (Part 1)

Selling your laptop shouldn’t be difficult.

When it comes time to sell your laptop, you’ll want to get the most money possible for it. Aside from that, you’ll want to keep your personal data protected from anyone looking to steal your identity.

Your laptop stores sensitive information, such as bank account details, among other things. Before you sell your laptop, you should create a backup of all of your files. Then, wipe the data off of the hard drive to ensure that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

It’s possible that in order for the application to run on your older computer, you’ll need to disable the DRM rights (Digital Permissions Management) associated with it, and it’s also possible that you’ll need to transfer your Windows license.

No Operating System Detected?

If you see the message Missing Operating System, it may be frustrating, but there are a few different things that might have caused it to appear on your screen.

There’s a possibility that the hard drive isn’t being recognized. Under Windows, the hard disk is not detectable by the BiOS operating system. If the hard disk still won’t function, you might try reconnecting it. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to acquire a new hard disk.

The Windows boot file partition is now inoperable due to a technical issue. It is possible to start the system using a partitioning tool that is bootable. If it does not work, you might try rendering the wrong partition “inactive” and then reactivating it. It appears that there was a problem with the Master Boot Record (MBR).

To rebuild the master boot record (MBR), you may either use a bootable partitioning program or the Windows installation or repair disk.

We’ll discuss more about the Master Boot Record and BiOS in future blog posts.

Printer Compatibility Issues

Purchasing a printer shouldn’t be too complicated. However, some printers aren’t compatible with certain operating systems. If you’re upgrading to a newer version of Windows, older printers may no longer be supported. Your only option will be to upgrade your printer instead of your PC if that is the situation.

To see if your printer is compatible, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Go to System Preferences.
  3. On the Hardware and Sound tab
  4. Devices and Printers
  5. Go to Unspecified to see if your printer is listed
