Many hackers aim to break into unprotected websites. This is because, in theory, a malicious actor could eavesdrop on your conversations on these services.

You should immediately shut the tab if the URL begins with HTTP rather than HTTPS. To the left of the address bar in browsers like Safari is an icon of a closed padlock, indicating that the site is secure. When clicking on the padlock, this window will pop up:
